The nature and validity of the RKKY limit of exchange coupling in magnetic trilayers

چکیده

The effects on the exchange coupling in magnetic trilayers due to the presence of a spin-independent potential well are investigated. It is shown that within the RKKY theory no bias nor extra periods of oscillation associated with the depth of the well are found, contrary to what has been claimed in recent works. The range of validity of the RKKY theory is also discussed. PACS numbers 75.70.Fr, 75.30.Et, 75.50.Rr Typeset using REVTEX ∗Permanent address: Instituto de F́ısica, Universidade Federal Fluminense.

Magnetic Order Beyond RKKY in the Classical Kondo Lattice

We study the Kondo lattice model of band electrons coupled to classical spins, in three dimensions, using a combination of variational calculation and Monte Carlo. We use the weak coupling ‘RKKY’ window and the strong coupling regime as benchmarks, but focus on the physically relevant intermediate coupling regime. Even for modest electron-spin coupling the phase boundaries move away from the RK...

Theory of Ferromagnetism in Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors

Carrier-induced ferromagnetism has been observed in several (III,Mn)V semiconductors. We review the theoretical picture of these ferromagnetic semiconductors that emerges from a model with kinetic-exchange coupling between localized Mn spins and valence-band carriers. We discuss the applicability of this model, the validity of a mean-field approximation for its interaction term widely used in t...

Magnetic susceptibility and order parameter of the spin-glass-like phase of the double-exchange model.

The magnetic susceptibility and Edwards-Anderson order parameter q of the spin-glass-like (SGL) phase of the double-exchange model are evaluated in the weak-coupling or RKKY limit. Dynamical mean-field theory is used to show that q = M(T/T(SGL))2, where M is the classical Brillouin function and T(SGL) is the SGL transition temperature. The correlation length of the SGL phase is determined by a ...

Thermal Convection of Rotating Micropolar Fluid in Hydromagnetics Saturating A Porous Medium

This paper deals with the theoretical investigation of the thermal instability of a thin layer of electrically conducting micropolar rotating fluid, heated from below in the presence of uniform vertical magnetic field in porous medium. A dispersion relation is obtained for a flat fluid layer, contained between two free boundaries using a linear stability analysis theory, and normal mode analysi...

RKKY Interaction in Coupled Quantum Dots

In artificial nanostructures the control of localized, single spin is of great technological importance for nanospintronic applications. In that respect quantum dots (QD), as the building blocks of nanodevices, seem to be most perspective. Quantum dots are electronic systems which confine a well-defined number of electrons. The total spin of a dot can be integer or half-integer (the latter stan...
